The Founder

Stephanie Nguku is the Founder and Managing Partner of Upscale Consulting. Having obtained gainful experience from the financial sector of over 12 years, she plays a central role in managing and developing meaningful relationships, underwriting credit transactions, and working closely with partners and clients to structure and deploy commercial financing solutions for aspiring and established businesses as well as creating customized financial plans.

Prior to founding Upscale Consulting, Stephanie worked in the commercial banking and finance sectors as a Credit Specialist, helping businesses acquire the necessary capital they need to grow; with her key roles centered in Credit Evaluation, Risk and Credit Management.

She has professional experience in providing asset-based working capital and structured term debt financial solutions for middle market companies, among other diversified financial solutions. She has helped businesses in different sectors obtain funds where she was responsible for evaluating financial performance, credit detail and industry markets. Under Financial planning, She’s also working for clients in helping them create personalized personal and business financial plans.

In the Business Ecosystem, Stephanie is a mentor with Make-IT Mentor Driven Capital Program run by VC4Africa and Imarisha Mentoring Program run by Mowgli Mentoring. She has worked closely with several Accelerator Programmes such as; Techstars Startup Accelerator, WYLDE International and Cytonn e-hub and as a trainer and coach with their cohorts; on matters Access to capital and Investor Readiness, a space she has been vouched to be well versed with by her partners and associations

She sits in several boards for several enterprises supporting the financial advisory function.

Stephanie holds a Bachelors in Commerce from Africa Nazarene University in Banking and Finance and a CPA holder from Strathmore University. She’s a graduate of the PassionBiz Academy having gone through the Harness Your Brilliance Program aimed at harnessing one’s business acumen. She has undergone a Public Speaking Masterclass with Shape Afrika Ltd and a Wealth Fitness Program with Wealth Fitness International focused on enhancing one’s business and financial growth capacity. She is set to join Strathmore Business School soon for the Masters in Development Finance program.

Stephanie is passionate about all matters financial wellness; with focus in access to capital and financial planning. She believes that, this being integral parts of our businesses and personal lives if well catered for; our overall well-being is sure covered.

The Business Development Manager

Joan Numa is a Business Development professional who has an extensive banking career having worked with some of the major banks in the Kenyan market. She builds lasting relationships with Corporates, Institutions, NGOs and State Corporations to reap mutual benefits through their interactions. After spending nearly a decade working in Relationship Management and marketing for key players in the banking industry, Joan knows what truly drives conversions into sales and the benefits of engaging in non-traditional strategic partnerships for the growth of revenue.

Joan has key achievements linked to innovation and incorporating technology in the financial sector to enhance efficiency and effectiveness. In addition to her extensive Relationship Management and marketing experience, Joan is a team player and believes that innovation and self drive always elicits amazing results.

Joan holds an Executive Masters of Business Administration, Bachelor’s degrees in Business Administration & Management and Marketing from Kenyatta University and Daystar University respectively. She is also a member of MSK (Marketing Society of Kenya).

At Upscale Consulting, we value our relationships with banks and lenders. With banks, there’s the added security that comes with an established lender, as well as offering greater loan amounts and, typically, more competitive rates provided all documentation is provided and you have good credit history. There can be many benefits to non-bank loans, depending on your situation. Some of these may include; faster turnaround for loan approval, shorter term contracts, flexibility in repayment structure, many options for low doc, poor credit and other ‘non-conforming’ loans.

Upscale Consulting welcomes referrals from bank and lender declines, clients whose companies do not meet their criteria’s for one reason or another. Reciprocally, we refer a considerable volume of deals to lenders from prospective client companies who are looking for financing.

Naturally, investors want their capital to go towards increasing profitability and revenue generation as well as make a good return. The Private Lenders and Venture Capital firms we work with supports projects that are economically sound, financially viable, technically feasible, environmentally friendly, and socially acceptable and with positive contribution to the national economy with satisfactory returns to its stakeholders. A private lender, also referred to as non-bank finance, is a third party outside of banks that you can get a loan from.
